Venture beyond the standard circuit and discover the extraordinary diversity of Kenya's wildlife in this 9-day grand safari through the northern wilderness and the legendary Mara. You begin in Samburu National Reserve — where Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and gerenuk graze under doum palms beside the Ewaso Ng'iro River — before moving deeper north to Meru National Park, the wild heartland of Kenya made famous by Joy Adamson's "Born Free." Meru's dense riverine forest and open Tana River floodplains shelter one of Kenya's fastest-growing elephant populations, white rhino, Grevy's zebra, lion, reticulated giraffe, hippo and the incredibly rare hirola antelope. After the north, the journey south brings dramatic contrast: the agricultural highlands of the Laikipia Plateau and finally the Masai Mara, where three days of game drives deliver the Big Five, massive wildebeest herds and the densest predator population in Africa. Drive north to Samburu. Afternoon drive reveals the first Northern Five sightings. Grevy's zebra are seen grazing beside the airstrip on arrival.
Full Day Samburu Wildlife
Complete Samburu day: Northern Five, leopard along the river, elephant bulls crossing at the camp waterhole. Expert cultural talk by resident Samburu guide in the evening.
Samburu to Meru National Park
Drive east to Meru National Park — made world famous by Joy and George Adamson's 'Born Free' story. Vast and wild, Meru's 870 square kilometres of riverine forest, open plains and dense thicket shelter an extraordinary variety of wildlife in relative seclusion.
Full Day Meru NP
Explore the wild rivers and open plains where Elsa the lioness was raised and returned to the wild. White rhino reintroduced in 1989 now breed successfully. Large herds of elephant move through the doum palm forest. Tana River hippos wallow in the crystal clear water.
Meru to Amboseli National Park
Long but rewarding drive south through diverse landscapes to Amboseli. Arriving in the evening as Kilimanjaro glows pink in the last light. Welcome dinner at the camp.
Full Day Amboseli — Elephants & Kilimanjaro
Classic Amboseli day: morning drive when Kilimanjaro is clearest, elephant family encounters at the swamp, afternoon drives for cheetah and lion on the open plains.
Amboseli to Masai Mara
Drive northwest to the Masai Mara arriving in time for an afternoon game drive. The contrast between Amboseli's dust and the Mara's lush grass is striking.
Full Day Masai Mara — Grand Finale Game Drives
A complete Mara day. Nine days into Kenya's finest safari, the Mara delivers its most spectacular wildlife encounters yet — the sheer density of animals in this reserve remains astonishing however many days you have spent in the bush.
Final Mara Drive & Nairobi Return
