This three day adventure takes you to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a pioneering sanctuary located on the Laikipia Plateau that stands at the forefront of wildlife conservation in Kenya. What makes this journey truly special is the opportunity to witness history in the making, as this conservancy is home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos on the planet, a poignant reminder of the importance of preservation efforts. Beyond this rare encounter, the reserve offers exceptional Big Five viewing, including healthy populations of elephants, lions, leopards, and both black and white rhinos. Adding to the diversity, Ol Pejeta also houses a charming chimpanzee sanctuary, the only one of its kind in Kenya. This itinerary is ideal for conservation enthusiasts, families with young children, and solo travelers alike, offering a blend of thrilling afternoon and full day game drives within a private and customizable setting.
3 days of carefully planned experiences — every detail considered.
Your adventure commences with a morning pickup at 7:30 AM from your Nairobi hotel or from the airport. From there, you will embark on a scenic drive north towards the Laikipia Plateau, a journey that typically takes between three and a half to four and a half hours. Upon arriving in Ol Pejeta around midday, you will check into your chosen accommodation, where a warm welcome and a hot lunch await you. After allowing some time to settle in, you will set out for an afternoon game drive. This initial foray into the wilderness introduces you to the conservancy’s rich biodiversity, where you will be on the lookout for the famed Big Five: elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo. As the sun begins its descent, you will return to your lodge or camp, arriving roughly between 5:30 and 6:00 in the evening. This gives you ample time to freshen up before enjoying a freshly prepared dinner, followed by a peaceful overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of the African bush.
Your second day is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing you to tailor the experience to your preferences. You are encouraged to discuss the schedule with your guide the previous evening to craft a plan that suits your interests. You have two wonderful options to choose from. The first option is to enjoy a relaxed breakfast before departing around 9:00 AM for a full day of game viewing, carrying a packed lunch with you. You will return to the lodge in the late afternoon, around 6:00 PM. Alternatively, for those eager to witness the bush at its most active, you may choose to depart at 6:00 AM for an early morning game drive. This time of day is widely considered the prime window for wildlife viewing, offering a greater chance of spotting predators on the move or even witnessing a hunt. After this early excursion, you will return to the accommodation for breakfast, followed by some leisure time to relax. Later, you will head out again for an afternoon game drive, once again carrying a packed lunch. You will pause at a scenic picnic spot within the conservancy to enjoy your meal surrounded by nature, then continue your exploration until the park closes for the day. You will return to the lodge around 6:00 PM for a well earned dinner and another comfortable overnight stay.
Your final day begins early as you set out on one last early morning game drive, making the most of your remaining time in the conservancy. This is a wonderful opportunity to search for any wildlife you may not have encountered on the previous days or to simply enjoy a final sunrise over the Laikipia plains. Your game viewing continues until approximately 9:00 AM, at which point you will return to the camp for a hearty breakfast. Following breakfast, you will check out from the accommodation and begin your journey back to Nairobi. You can expect to arrive in the capital city by around 5:00 in the afternoon, where you will be dropped off, bringing your safari adventure to a close.
